West Bridgford town centre businesses – parking questionnaire

Overview

Nottinghamshire County Council and Rushcliffe Borough Council are currently undertaking a review of parking in West Bridgford and we want to make sure that the needs of local businesses and their employees are considered fully as part of the review.

We’re carrying out the review because during the last couple of years the County Council has received a large number of requests for residents’ parking schemes from residents living on streets close to the West Bridgford shopping areas.  The residents state that they have difficulty parking near their properties because non-residents park on these streets for all or most of the day.

Following the requests the County Council has carried out surveys on the roads close to the town centre and results identified a number of streets where non-residents are parking for long periods of time.  Introducing residents’ parking schemes on all of the affected streets would, however, have a significant impact on the amount of long-stay parking space available in the town centre.  This is because when residents’ parking schemes are introduced only the residential and commercial properties on the affected street are eligible to apply for a permit to park on it.

This could have a significant impact on businesses if their staff require long-stay on-street parking in the town. The County Council would therefore like to find an appropriate balance between helping residents and ensuring that parking is available for town centre workers.  Before we consider any changes to parking restrictions in the town centre we would like to find out how staff are currently travelling to work so that we can get an idea of how many of them park on-street and the length of time that they normally park in West Bridgford.  We don’t require any personal information, or the names of the roads staff park on, as this exercise is not about identifying which specific roads they use and stopping them from parking on them.
