Carlton Ferry Lane consultation
Overview
As you may be aware, part of the highway at Carlton Ferry Lane, near Collingham in Nottinghamshire (Grid Reference SK 82808 62026) was extensively damaged during the flooding which took place in January 2025 and since that date, for safety reasons, a section of the road has been closed to all users.

The affected section of Carlton Ferry Lane is shown in red on the plan below:
Why your views matter
The council wishes to hear from the public who use Carlton Ferry Lane to enable it to understand fully the implications of the options it is examining. All responses received will be carefully considered before any final decision is made.
Options currently being considered are either to try and repair the highway again or to permanently ‘stop-up’ the affected length of Carlton Ferry Lane as public highway. This is the red section in the above plan. This option would require the Authority to make an application to the Magistrates Court which, if granted, would remove all public rights to use this section of highway. Private access rights would not though be affected. Access to the river would still be available to the public via Northcroft Lane (the green section on the plan).
We would be grateful if you could complete the consultation and submit any comments that you may wish the Authority to consider by 20 February 2026.
Alternatively, you can submit your comments by:
- email to martin.carnaffin@nottscc.gov.uk;
- letter to Mr M. Carnaffin at County Hall, Loughborough Road, Nottingham, NG2 7PQ
- Email/letter responses to be received by 20 February 2026.
If you have any queries regarding this request, please do not hesitate to contact martin.carnaffin@nottscc.gov.uk.
