Overview

We are seeking the views and comments from interested parties about a proposal to alter the age range and enlarge the premises of Christ Church Church of England Voluntary Aided Infant and Nursery School to become a through primary school.  From September 2021, the whole primary school will relocate to new premises on Flaxley Lane, Middlebeck, Newark NG24 4EF.

The Governing Body of Christ Church Church of England Voluntary Aided Infant and Nursery School and the County Council propose to:-

  • Alter the age range of Christ Church Church of England Voluntary Aided Infant and Nursery School from 3 – 7 years, to become a through primary school, named Christ Church C of E Voluntary Aided Primary School catering for children aged 4 – 11 years from 1st September 2020.
     
  • Enlarge the existing school by relocating the primary school to a nearby site and building on Flaxley Lane, Middlebeck, Newark NG24 4EF from 1 September 2021. 

Consultation

This proposal is at a formative stage and no final decisions have yet been made. 

This consultation process is designed to establish the views of:  parents and carers, pupils, governors, staff, the local community and other interested parties in respect of the above proposal.

Outcome of the consultation

On the 20th May 2019, the Children and Young People’s Committee of NCC approved the proposals of Governing Bodies of both schools and of  the County Council to:

  • Change  the age range of Christ Church Infant  School for it to become a primary school.
  • Relocate Christ Church Primary School and to rebuild it on a site in the Middlebeck development in Newark.
  • Reason: A single site school will be delivered by Middlebeck housing developers  to meet the need for school places generated by a  housing growth plan of up to 3,150 dwellings by 2034.  Members have agreed to extend the age range of the current Christ Church Infant School to become a primary school and  enlarge its  premises by relocation to the Middlebeck site within the Newark growth point area.
