ADVERT - PROVISION OF PUFFIN CROSSING ON GILT HILL, KIMBERELY AND RELOCATION OF BUS STOP CLEARWAYS

Overview

Via East Midlands Ltd is working on behalf of Nottinghamshire County Council to deliver highway services across Nottinghamshire. The County Council has received a number of complaints regarding the lack of suitable crossing facilities on Gilt Hill, Kimberley, particularly for pedestrians accessing Gilt Hill Primary School.

Following these concerns, a feasibility survey was undertaken along Gilt Hill to identify the most appropriate location for a formal pedestrian crossing. The survey concluded that the preferred location is to the west of Digby Street, close to Gilt Hill Primary School.

It is proposed to install a puffin crossing at this location. The crossing will include a controlled area, identified by the introduction of zig-zag road markings, within which stopping, parking and loading would be prohibited at all times.

In accordance with Section 23 of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, I hereby enclose for your information the statutory public notice setting out Nottinghamshire County Council’s intention to introduce the puffin crossing on Gilt Hill, Kimberley.

The public notice will be published in the Nottingham Post and notices will be fixed on site. A plan showing the extents of the ‘No Stopping or No Loading At Any Time’ restrictions (Zig-Zag lines) is attached (Drawing Number TP2630020/TS102) along with a copy of the site notice.

To accommodate the proposed puffin crossing, it is necessary to relocate the existing disabled parking bay to a position outside No. 41, along with the relocation of two existing bus stops, one on Gilt Hill and one on Eastwood Road.

As part of these changes, bus stop clearways are proposed at both locations. These clearways would prohibit all other vehicles from parking or waiting within the bus stop areas at any time. The restrictions will be clearly indicated by new road markings and associated signage.

The full extent of the proposed bus stop clearway restrictions is shown on Drawing Number TP2630020/TS103.

The main benefits of bus stop clearways are to:

  • Help the bus align with the kerb to enable better access for disabled passengers and pushchair users;
  • Ease congestion as a correctly aligned bus will not block the road for other road users;
  • Ensure that bus drivers discharge their duty to drop passengers off on the kerb and not on the road;
  • Ensure that bus services operate on time and are not unnecessarily delayed.
