PROPOSED AMENDMENT TO TAXI CLEARWAYS HOURS OF OPERATION (TRO 3293) CASTLE GATE ,NEWARK

Overview

Via East Midlands Ltd, is working on behalf of Nottinghamshire County Council to deliver highway services in Nottinghamshire. It has been reported by Newark and Sherwood District Council that the parking bay on Castle Gate, Newark which is used as a taxi rank between the hours of 8pm and 6am is regularly obstructed by parked vehicles in the evenings after 8pm, despite increased parking enforcement in the area. This obstructive parking is affecting the safe operation of the bay as an evening taxi rank.

Currently vehicles can park in the bay between the hours of 8am and 6pm for up to 1 hour, Monday to Saturday (no return within 2 hours). Between 6pm and 8pm there are no parking restrictions and every day from 8pm until 6am the bay operates as a taxi rank and all vehicles except for taxis are prohibited from stopping. It is proposed to rationalise the evening parking restrictions by changing the hours of operation of the taxi rank to start at 6pm (rather than 8pm) when the bay ceases to be a limited waiting bay.
