Overview
Improvements Design Team, Via East Midlands Ltd, Bilsthorpe Depot, Bilsthorpe Business Park, Bilsthorpe, Nottinghamshire, NG22 8ST
Via East Midlands Ltd, working on behalf of Nottinghamshire County Council, proposes to relocate two bus stop poles, installing two new shelters and two enforceable bus stop clearways at the following stops and as shown on the attached site notice: -
- Thane Road, Beeston – 2 X 19 metre Bus Stop Clearways: No stopping except buses.
Nottinghamshire County Council works closely with all public transport operators across the County to identify bus stops that need improvement. At the location listed above, two bus stop poles with shelters and two 19m bus stop clearways are to be relocated to help serve the new housing development. This will prohibit other vehicles from parking or waiting in the bus stops at any time and will be clearly identified with new road markings and signage. The main benefits of bus stop clearways are to:
- Help the bus align with the kerb to enable better access for disabled passengers and pushchair users.
- Ease congestion as a correctly aligned bus will not block the road for other road users.
- Ensure that bus drivers discharge their duty to drop passengers off on the kerb and not on the road.
- Ensure that bus services operate on time and are not unnecessarily delayed.
To increase traffic safety on Thane Road, Beeston, it is proposed to introduce two new raised 75mm high flat-topped table plateaus, remove an existing raised table and to reduce the length of an existing raised plateau. It is also proposed to install six new speed cushions within this scheme to aid reducing vehicle speeds, increasing safety on the highways surrounding the new housing development.
