TRO 1332 - UNION STREET, RETFORD - PROPOSED AMENDMENTS TO RESIDENTS' CONTROLLED ZONE

Overview

Via East Midlands is working on behalf of Nottinghamshire County Council to deliver highway services. Nottinghamshire County Council have received requests to consider providing two additional parking bays within the existing residents’ parking scheme along Union Street, Retford, where most of the properties do not have access to any off-street parking. This has come following recognition that sections of the double yellow lines are no longer required and can safely be replaced with parking bays.

Similarly to the existing residents’ parking scheme, these additional bays would allow residents to continue parking on street but would prevent long-term non-residential parking. Parking by residents and their visitors would be controlled by permits. However, a permit would not guarantee a space directly outside a person’s property and at busy times may not guarantee a space within the controlled area. Residents who have already purchased permits within the existing residents’ parking scheme will still be permitted to park in the new bays, without the need to re-apply. The proposals are shown on the attached drawing H/CLW/5182/01.

There will be a public consultation meeting being held by Via East Midlands Ltd and Nottinghamshire County Council with the residents of Union Street on Tuesday 13th January at the Grove Street Methodist Church from 5pm until 7pm.

Further to the stage one consultation letter of 28th August 2025, the next stage of the consultation is to publicly advertise the scheme. The advert will be published in the Retford Times and notices will be fixed on site. A plan showing the extents of the ‘Residents Parking Scheme’ is attached (Drawing Number H/CLW/5182/01 along with a copy of the Site Notice.

Any observations on these proposals should reach me in writing, either by letter or email, by 5th February 2026. If your comments are in the form of an objection to the proposals, please clearly state this and the reasons for your objection. If the objection cannot be resolved, it will be reported through the County Council’s procedures at the appropriate time.

Please be advised that all comments regarding this scheme, made during the Stage One Consultation period, still remain valid throughout this Stage Two Consultation period.
