TRO 8418 ADVERT - FLINTHAM BOAT No 9 - PROHIBITION OF DRIVING
Overview
Nottinghamshire has an extensive network of around 2700km of public rights of way, which includes footpaths, bridleways, restricted byways and byways open to all traffic (BOAT). This extensive network is both a significant part of our heritage and a major recreational resource; used by both residents and visitors to Nottinghamshire. The County Council is committed to the active management of this network to maintain and protect existing routes. Over recent years certain routes have experienced rapid deterioration as a result of heavy usage. Their consistent exposure to this kind of wear makes it difficult to maintain them to a standard that enables all of the users of these public rights of way to access them.
Investigations indicate that this damage occurs most frequently and most severely on byways which are open to and legally used by motorised traffic during winter months. To reduce the deterioration of these routes and potential risks to those using these byways, it is proposed to restrict access to some byways for part of each year. The restriction would apply to motorised traffic (motorised vehicles with three or more wheels) and to horse drawn vehicles only; pedestrians, cyclists, solo motorcyclists and horse riders would be able to use the route throughout the year. This restriction is considered necessary to effectively manage the network and to safeguard future access.
Via East Midlands Ltd, working on behalf of the County Council, is proposing to close the following selected byway to motorised vehicles with three or more wheels and horse drawn vehicles (Byways Open to All Traffic) annually between 1st November and 30th April.
