TRO3368 - RUFFORD LANE, RUFFORD - PROPOSED PROHIBITION OF DRIVING - PUBLIC ADVERT

Closed 4 Mar 2024

Opened 5 Feb 2024

Overview

In the past 3 years public behaviour at Rufford ford has resulted in an escalating road safety issue generated in the main by social media posts. Following an accident in 2022 the County Council, with the support of Nottinghamshire Police, introduced an immediate temporary closure of the ford on public safety grounds.

Since then, a number of options have been considered, and it appears that closure of the ford may be necessary to address the road safety issues arising in this location. The County Council is under a duty to take action to remove or reduce danger to highway users and it appears, particularly from recent events during Storm Babet, that, having regard to the character of this road, significant numbers of motor vehicles are crossing the ford in a reckless and unsafe manner, endangering themselves and other highway users, and will continue to do so unless the ford is closed.

To address this therefore, it is proposed to introduce a ‘Prohibition of Driving’ restriction along a section of Rufford Lane where the Ford crossing is, as shown on drawing number H/MW/4540/01.
