Budget priorities

We know that many people are facing pressure on their household finances.

Demand for services for older people, people with disabilities and vulnerable children is increasing.

At the same time, government funding has not kept pace with growing demand and increasingly complex needs. Rising costs, including the National Living Wage, also mean that services are more expensive to deliver.

As we plan our budget for 2027/28, we want to understand which Nottinghamshire County Council services are most important to you.

Your feedback will help us identify:

  • which services should be prioritised
  • where there may be opportunities to make savings

Services to keep children safe

Fostering and adoption, safeguarding and child protection, residential care and short breaks.

Support for families

What this service includes

Family hubs, youth services, early years and childcare services.

Protecting and improving health

What this service includes

Helping to give children the best start, supporting people wanting to make healthy changes related to alcohol, drugs, tobacco, nutrition and exercise, mental wellbeing and suicide prevention.

Giving particular attention to people living with the harmful impacts of homelessness and domestic violence.

Planning and infrastructure

What this service includes

Planning and improvements, and highway maintenance.

Environmental services

What this service includes

Waste and recycling, flooding and climate change.

Economic development and regeneration

What this service includes

Employment and skills, broadband and tourism.

Recreational and cultural services

What this service includes

Library services, arts, trails and country parks.

Services to and for schools

What this service includes

School admissions, and mainstream or special educational needs and disabilities transport to school.
