The Nottinghamshire County Council (Netherfield Lane, Meden Vale) (40 M.P.H. Speed Limit) Order 2018 (2217)

Closed 27 Jul 2018

Opened 27 Jun 2018

Overview

In response to requests and following a safety assessment of the highway network, Via East Midlands, working on behalf of Nottinghamshire County Council, is proposing to introduce a 40 m.p.h speed limit on Netherfield Lane. The new lower limit is proposed for the section of Netherfield Lane to the east of Meden Vale between Gleadthorpe Cottages and the property called Inglenook.

The section of road has been investigated by the Crash Reduction Team at Via East Midlands Ltd following recent road traffic collisions. A scheme to improve safety on this stretch of road has been developed and will include high friction surfacing, lining and chevron signs. To further assist with improving the safety along this section it is proposed to reduce the speed limit from 60 m.p.h to 40 m.p.h as shown on drawing number H/JMR/2771/01.

The new speed limit has been determined following an assessment of the road and consideration of the Department for Transport’s guidance on speed limits. The 40 m.p.h limit is appropriate for the road characteristics and this will help achieve driver compliance with the new limit.  A 30 m.p.h speed limit is not considered appropriate for this section of road, which is largely rural in nature, and could result in lower compliance through the more built-up area of Meden Vale itself.
